Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski arrived at the Vatican to extend a formal invitation for the Supreme Pontiff to visit Peru. He was received by Pope Francis in a private audience.

It was a pleasant surprise to see the Peruvian flag hoisted at St. Damasus Square of the Apostolic Palace, as part of the protocol for the President’s official visit.

On the way, he was escorted by the Gentlemen of His Holiness —lay members of noble families appointed as such for the service to the Pontiff.

The Peruvian leader entered the Tronetto Hall, where His Holiness was awaiting him. They shook hands and exchanged a few words. After that, they entered the papal library where the private audience took place.

At the end of the audience, the President shared a short video full of hope to all Peruvians: “From Rome, early in the morning on Saturday, our mission has been accomplished: a successful visit with the Pope, a great man. We had a nice chat. See you in Lima. Mission accomplished.”

This way, the statesman returned to Peru bringing Pope’s words with him: “Lima, here I come.” A simple phrase that fills us with happiness and turns January 18 into a memorable date for all Peruvian people. Let us enjoy the upcoming visit of the Pope of Change!
